The cow is sacred in India.
It is the ultimate sacrifice, giving its milk for nourishment, its meat for sustenance, and is often a sacrificial animal in tribal religions.
In the East, the cow is considered one of the highest sacred animals. It is a sign of enduring female power – to give birth and nurse, to nurture relationships. Cows are representative of new beginnings, gently and in tranquility. The cow is loving, generous, fertile, and nurturing.
I found one reference to a wooden cow figurine in Hindu mythology – as a stage the soul must pass through – it takes the shape of a wooden figurine – as it transcends back to the source. The cow is one of the highest figurines it can take, because the cow has no agenda, is giving, and loving.
