The Stag. The deer is gentleness, but the Stag is the Horned One, the Wild God of the Woods, Cernunnos. Deep mystery – the God of Darkness and Light. You were intimidated by him, he was so huge and awe inspiring.
The Stag is masculine and speaks of regeneration, connection to the Earth, alertness, pride, psychic strength (horns are extensions of psychic power), and nobility.

Stag is the symbol of Cernnunos or Herne, a fertility god uniting man and nature. Lord of fertility, sexuality, vitality in the forest, the hunt, animals, life, death, and the underworld, he is a Sun God representing the Male principle, logic, power, truth, healing, arts, music. He is a great sage and magician – the Sun to the Goddess’ Moon. He is born at winter solstice, dies at summer solstice to bring fertility to the harvest.
Stag wants you to honor him with ceremony and ritual, to develop your own power and goals by joining with others in similar circumstances and experiences. The Stag is the center of the circle, you are invited to join with others around the Stag. Stag allows you to tap into your warrior spirit, to empower your solar plexus and naval chakras, and develop more into the astral and inner realms, to connect your body to the light, and to your heart’s wisdom.
Deer is a creature of great gentleness. This was a young, male deer – which emphasizes that even your practical nature is intuitive and sensitive, and has the Power of dealing with great challenges with graceful and powerful choices. The deer is also vigilant, able to warn the whole herd with a flash of the tail. This was not a stag, but a stag will sacrifice himself – hang back and fight the predator – to let the herd escape. This self sacrifice ensures the safety of all.
