      Red Fox

Fox is the medicine of camouflage.

He can change colour to match the winter snows.

He is brilliantly adaptable, clever and cunning.

From Jamie Sams and David Carson’s, “Medicine Animal Cards”

“If Fox has chosen to share its medicine with you, it is a sign that you are to become like the wind, which is unseen yet is able to weave into and through any location or situation. You would be wise to observe the acts of others rather than their words at this time. Use your cunning nature in a positive way; keep silent about who and what you are observing.”

An excellent exercise for learning fox medicine is to decide to be invisible. Visualize your body as part of your surroundings, quiet, unnoticeable. This gives you the freedom to observe the behaviours of those around you.

In blending with your surroundings, you can become One with them, and in this Oneness learn a deeper connection to environment and All Your Relations.

This is more information on fox, based on Alexis Cartwright’s “Transference Healing Animal Magic”

Fox teaches detachment. S/he is kin to dog, wolf and jackal. Unlike these others, fox is a solitary animal. Fox lives on the border areas, fringes of forest. S/he hides and lives in the forest, but feeds in the fields. S/he has remarkable ability to evade capture, and it is wise to watch where sh/e moves and follow his/her lead.

In Scottish folklore, the people would only cross the ice if a fox has safely crossed before them – trusting the wise instincts of the fox to know whether or not the ice is safe.

Fox hunts at twilight: dusk, or the hours just before dawn. In some cultures (such as Japan) fox is portrayed as a trickster, a character who breaks the rules by trickery or thievery.

Fox warns that you need to increase your flexibility and adaptability. You could be emotionally drained or burdened by others’ needs, or preyed upon by people who want something from you. Fox reminds you to remain clear and non-judgemental, and to maintain your boundaries in these situations.

Keep a sense of detachment, and fox will teach you how to gather the wisdom you need to move forward.

          Arctic Fox

The Arctic fox, or white fox, is only white during the snows.

Fox is an opportunist. Fox knows about luck and how to use his skill to make his luck work. The Arctic fox has the additional skill of changing himself to be invisible, depending on the conditions of his environment. Adaptable, skilled, clever, and knowing when to find the luck, he can change his coat and disappear.

I’m guessing that you are seeing a white fox against green background, green trees, rocks, and not against the snows. That means to me that he has shown himself to you, and shows that you can choose whether to be invisible or not.
