      The Flute is an aid to travel to the underworld, and is deeply connected with magick. Breath is required to sound the flute – and it is the breath which is the animation, the breath of creation, the breath of life.

      The breath is the closest link to the divine, and the breath in the flute is the sound of the divine. Sound is the closest sense we have to Divine, In the Beginning was the Word (sound) it is the first emanation of creation. Music and chant are the connection between human and the divine.

      Kokopelli, who plays the flute, is a traveller between the worlds. His flute speaks of love, of breath, of life and celebration. He has horns on his head, as indications of his power. Kokopelli visits many women in a night with his flute.
      In Native American society, the flute was more faithful. When a man wanted to court a woman, he would play his flute outside her home every night to lure her love, until he succeeded. SO there is a persistence, devotion, and loyalty, to the flute, as well.
