Snow Monkey (Japanese Macaque)
Snow Monkey (Japanese Macaque) – the monkeys in the hot springs of Japan are snow monkeys. In early Japan, these monkeys were mediators, between man and the Gods, but later became scapegoats to blame humanity’s problems on (apparently their mediation with the Gods wasn’t all that the humans expected). By the 17th century, they represented “animal nature” in humans. There is a priesthood named after the monkeys.
The macaque is one of the most brilliant and versatile of all monkeys. That he was resting in a hot pool indicates that relaxation (more “be” less “do”) will be helpful to you. In colder climates, like Japan, he needs to use the hot pool, because normally monkeys live in tropical conditions. He said he was your helper, and the help he offered you was Silence. When you offered him a gift, he asked for Respect.
Relax. Silence. Respect. And there’s something ancestral about this, too – like – learning from the ancient humans by silent listening.
Oh, and they are very sexy, too – you know – hot pools, monkeys = very playful!
